Salabay is a word for jellyfish in several Philippine languages — in Masbatenyo and Aklanon, it names the small yet potent creatures of the sea, while in Waray, it speaks of the large, dangerous ones that move with quiet force. In some places, salabay can also mean to carry — to be lifted or borne along, like being cradled by the tide.
It’s a word that holds both stillness and strength — a reminder that even when you drift, you’re still moving toward where you’re meant to be.
Inspired by the jellyfish sanctuary of Tojoman Lagoon in Bucas Grande (part of the Siargao island group) where stingless jellyfish glide gently beneath the surface, the Salabay Journal invites you to flow with life’s currents.
